Our Purpose

A Foundation Built to Change Lives and Change the Narrative

BET Foundation is an Australian and Kenyan-registered non- profit, globally oriented disability support organisation driven by the conviction that people living with autism and disability wherever they are born  deserve world-class care, genuine dignity, and the full power of community. We exist not only to support individuals, but to shift the story: about what disability looks like, about what Africa is capable of building, and about what happens when advocacy, excellence, and human compassion act together.

As we enter a landmark chapter  on building  Africa’s first integrated Autism Respite Centre and Centre for Excellence in Disability Care, Education and Rehabilitation, we reaffirm the foundational convictions that guide everything we do.

Mission Statement

BET Foundation is dedicated to transforming the landscape of disability care, autism support, and rehabilitation through the development of world-class, culturally responsive centres of excellence. We provide integrated, evidence-based care and education for individuals living with disability, deliver professional rehabilitation services that restore function and dignity, and sustain the wellbeing of caregivers through dedicated wellness infrastructure so that every person in our circle of care is seen, supported, and empowered to thrive.

Vision Statement

To be Africa’s pioneering leader in autism and disability care  establishing the continent’s first integrated Autism Respite Centre and Centre for Excellence in Disability Care, Education and Rehabilitation, setting an international benchmark for inclusive, restorative, and holistic support that changes the global narrative on how disability is understood, valued, and served.

Purpose Statement

We exist to change the narrative. BET Foundation was founded on the belief that every life  regardless of ability, geography, or circumstance  holds infinite worth and deserves the highest quality of care and opportunity. Our purpose is to build spaces and systems where individuals with autism and disability are not defined by their challenges but elevated by their potential; where families are relieved of isolation and equipped as true partners in care; where caregivers are sustained, honoured, and renewed through dedicated wellness; and where African communities lead  not follow  in defining the future of disability excellence.

We pursue this purpose through strategic global partnerships, rigorous education and training, transformative built environments, and an unshakeable commitment to equity, dignity, and human flourishing for all.

The Centres We Are Building

1. Autism Respite Centre

Africa’s first dedicated respite facility for children and adults living with autism. Designed to provide structured, safe, sensory-sensitive environments where individuals receive specialist care while their families and caregivers are given essential relief. This Centre will introduce evidence-based autism intervention models within an African context  drawing on global best practice while honouring local culture, language, and family structure.

2. Centre for Excellence in Disability Care, Education and Rehabilitation

A world-class academic and clinical hub offering professional training, disability education, and rehabilitation services to the highest international standard. Operating in partnership with registered training organisations and  partners, this Centre will develop the next generation of disability care professionals across Africa  credentialled, culturally competent, and equipped to lead. Clinical rehabilitation programs will serve individuals across the full disability spectrum, with tailored pathways in physical, cognitive, and sensory rehabilitation.

3. Wellness Centre for Caregivers and Guests

Caregivers are the invisible backbone of disability support  and they are too often the most underserved. Our integrated Wellness Centre is purposefully designed for the human beings who carry the greatest weight: family caregivers, professional support workers, and all guests of the facility. Through therapeutic rest spaces, mental health services, peer support programs, nutrition and movement programs, and structured recovery retreats, we will sustain the people who sustain others  because caregiver wellbeing is not a luxury; it is a clinical and ethical necessity.

“We are not building a centre. We are building a movement  one that declares, for the first time on this continent, that autism and disability are not burdens to be hidden but human stories to be honoured, supported, and celebrated at the highest level of care in the world.”

— BET Foundation, 2026

Why This Matters

Changing the Narrative in Autism and Disability Care

Across Africa, autism and disability remain widely misunderstood  often met with silence, stigma, or the absence of professional infrastructure. Families navigate an absence of diagnosis, an absence of services, and an absence of hope. The narrative has, for too long, been one of limitation.

BET Foundation is here to write a different story.

By establishing Africa’s first integrated Autism Respite Centre and Centre for Excellence in Disability Care, Education and Rehabilitation, we are not only delivering services  we are proving that Africa can lead the world in disability innovation, compassionate care, and human-centred design. We are demonstrating that Australian expertise, European partnership, and African community knowledge can converge to create something that has never existed before on this continent.

This is the narrative shift: from absence to abundance, from stigma to dignity, from isolation to a global community of excellence. Together WE can.

The Values That Guide Us

ValueWhat It Means in Practice
Dignity FirstEvery individual — regardless of ability, age, or background — is treated with unconditional respect and seen as a whole person of infinite worth.
Excellence Without CompromiseWe hold our care, education, and rehabilitation services to the highest international standards, continuously benchmarking against global best practice.
Community and BelongingWe build environments where individuals, families, and caregivers feel seen, connected, and held — not managed or processed.
Pioneering LeadershipWe are bold enough to do what has not been done before — on this continent and in this sector — because the need demands it.
Sustainable PartnershipWe grow through accountable, transparent, and mutual collaboration with government bodies, European fund partners, training organisations, and global networks.
Caregiver WellbeingWe invest equally in the people who provide care as in those who receive it — recognising that sustainable support systems begin with a well-supported workforce.
Cultural IntegrityOur programs honour the cultural contexts of the communities we serve, ensuring that global models are adapted, not imposed.

Strategic Alignment with Global and Local Partners

BET Foundation’s collaboration with global and local partners marks a transformational milestone  bringing together international philanthropic commitment and African-led operational vision to build infrastructure that serves individuals with disability at scale. Our alignment with  priorities reflects shared commitments to:

A. Inclusive Development

Disability inclusion as a pillar of sustainable human development, consistent with UNCRPD obligations and the Sustainable Development Goals.

B. Capacity Building

Investing in African-led professional training and workforce development in disability care — creating lasting institutional capacity rather than dependency.

C. Model Replication

Designing our Centre for Excellence as a replicable model — one that can be scaled across Africa and adapted to strengthen disability systems continent-wide.

D. Governance Transparency

Operating under a robust 17-part governance structure that ensures full accountability, financial transparency, and measurable impact reporting to all fund partners.

A First for Africa  A Promise to the World

BET Foundation stands at the threshold of something historic. What we are building has never been built before on the African continent. The Autism Respite Centre, the Centre for Excellence in Disability Care, Education and Rehabilitation, and the Wellness Centre for Caregivers are not simply buildings  they are declarations. Declarations that Africa belongs at the forefront of global disability innovation. That caregivers deserve to be cared for. That autism is not a sentence but a journey that deserves expert, loving, world-class companionship.

We invite every partner, every government, every family, and every advocate to stand with us — because when we come together across borders, sectors, and disciplines, we prove what our foundation has always believed:

Together WE can.
