BET FOUNDATION has been named a Stevie® Award Gold Winner in the Community Involvement Program of the Year at a Women-Owned or -Led Organization category in the 22nd annual Stevie Awards for Women in Business.
The Stevie Awards for Women in Business honor the achievements of women executives, entrepreneurs, employees, and the organizations they run worldwide. Nicknamed Stevie for the Greek word for “crowned,” the Stevie Award has been hailed as the world’s premier business award.
Earlier today, the awards were presented at a gala event in New York City, where more than 400 women and their guests from around the world attended, and the event was also broadcast live.
More than 1,500 entries from organizations and individuals in 48 nations and territories were submitted this year for consideration in categories such as Executive of the Year, Entrepreneur of the Year, Company of the Year, Startup of the Year, Women Helping Women, and Women-run Workplace of the Year, among many others. BET FOUNDATION won GOLD in the Community Involvement Program of the Year at a Women-Owned or -Led Organization category for its groundbreaking grassroots impact in the nonprofit and advocacy sector.
BET FOUNDATION, honored for its Outstanding Community Initiative, has rescued and protected over 5,000 girls from female genital mutilation (FGM) through direct intervention,
advocacy, education, and culturally sensitive community engagement strategies. This recognition underscores the organization’s bold and compassionate leadership in combating one of the world’s most pressing human rights violations.
“Being named a winner in this prestigious global award is a testament to the tireless efforts of our team and our partners on the ground,” said Emily Korir, CEO of BET FOUNDATION. “This award from the Stevie’s will shine a light on FGM, giving us a platform to amplify the voices of the survivors and to save more girls.”
“As a young woman and a youth ambassador, I believe we are the generation that will finally end FGM,” added Britney Korir, BET FOUNDATION’s Youth Ambassador. “This recognition gives me
hope. It tells every girl at risk that she is seen, she is valued, and she has warriors fighting for her.”
Finalists are determined based on the average scores of more than 190 business professionals worldwide, serving across seven judging committees. Their scores also determine the Gold, Silver, and Bronze Stevie placements.
Maggie Miller, president of the Stevie Awards, said, “Now in its 22nd year, the Stevie Awards for Women in Business attracted an exceptional range of nominations. We are continually inspired by how meaningful it is for women to receive a Stevie Award and the lasting impact it can have on their careers and organizations.
